What You've Always Wanted to Know

Read the manual for all of the other information!

1. Batteries
   • fully charged battery pack will power the AS for 60-150 hours
   • you get the longest life from your battery pack if you wait for the Low Battery (at this point you have about 20 minutes of battery life left) message to appear on the AS screen
   • whenever the AC adapter is plugged into the AS the battery pack is recharged whether the AS is turned on or off
   • an overnight charge is good but an over the weekend of 60 hours will fully charge the battery
   • ALWAYS fully charge your battery after it has been stored for more than a month
2. There is no Save command. As soon as you type each character it is automatically saved
3. Editing Text- You can cut, copy, and paste- Move the cursor under the first letter of the first word in the text you want to select. Hold down the shift key along with any of the arrow keys- a flashing block cursor will appear over the letter Use the arrow keys to select the text
4. Editing
   • Delete - use the cut command (crtl-X) to move the text to the clipboard, or the backspace key to delete the text entirely
   • Copy - use the copy command (crtl-X)
   • Paste - After text has been cut or copied, place your cursor where you want to paste the text on the clipboard and use the Past command (crtl-V)
   • The cut or copied text on clipboard will stay until the next cut or copy takes place.
5. There are 8 files that are each 12.5 pages in length. A message will be displayed when a file is full. You can see how much room a file has left by pressing I while in a file.
6. Spell check
   • Press the spell check key
   • Read the screen for list of commands
   • It is possibe to disable spell check
7. Transferring Text to a computer using Infrared (IR)
   • Run the AlphaBeam program (located in Programs under Alpha Smart)
   • Open the program into which you want to transfer the AS file
   • Turn on the AS and open the file you want to transfer to the PC
   • Press the send key on the AS.
   • The screen on the AS will display the message
8. Connecting to the computer (infared mode)
   • Press esc to exit.
   • Sending File x
